Worst case? You go in circles and find some time to think.

At Least the Rain’s Refreshing

There’s been so much of it, I would vouch to say I have one of the cleanest basements in New England what with it getting washed every couple of weeks. But there’s worse things. Rain’s just water and water is pretty refreshing. If this were fifteen-sixteen years ago, I’d probably have a completely different reaction.

I used to break cellphones because I thought it was cool to throw them across a parking lot in some grand display of frustration. Typically after or in the midst of an argument. Luckily, it was back before smartphones and when you could still walk into a Verizon store and just pick up a new phone with no hassle.

Simpler times.

Looking back, I know I was an idiot for acting like that, but let’s break it down second-by-second. In those often heated moments, my brain would flash and think one thing: refresh. Which, at the time, meant the logical thing to do was ctrl-alt-delete with the closest thing at hand. It just so happened said cellphone was in my hand.

So, I would go for a refresh. Much like I’m doing right now, in an admittedly less self-absorbed, destructive way.

2023 was a year. If it was good to you, take a bow and know you deserve it, even if it doesn’t feel like it. If you’re on the other side of the coin, reflect, acknowledge, and look forward. 2024 is going to be a ride. Let’s make it a good one.

Cheers and happy New Year.
